ON THE MOVE: State Street Adds Karen Wong for ESG; SEC Promotes David Saltiel

State Street Global Advisors has announced that Lynn Blake, CIO, Global Equity Beta Solutions (GEBS), will be retiring on September 30, 2021. John Tucker will be promoted to the role upon Blake’s retirement. Tucker began his career at State Street Global Advisors in 1990 and has held a number of senior roles within GEBS over the past 20 years. Since 2017, he has served as COO of Investments. In addition, the firm has appointed Karen Wong, who will join State Street Global Advisors on June 14, 2021 in the newly created role of Global Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainable Investing. Wong most recently was Managing Director and Head of Index Portfolio Management for Mellon Investments Corporation.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has named David Saltiel as Acting Director of the Division of Trading and Markets. Saltiel replaces Christian R. Sabella, who concluded his tenure at the agency on June 2. Since joining the SEC in 2016, Mr. Saltiel has served as the head of the Office of Analytics and Research in the Division of Trading and Markets. Immediately before joining the SEC, he was Chief Economist at the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board.

David Curtis has joined BondIT as Partner and Head of Global Client Business. He joins BondIT after 16 years at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he headed the firm’s UK Institutional Business.

Validus Risk Management has opened an office in New York and appointed Bryan Cohen as Managing Director. Cohen brings over 15 years’ experience across various areas of risk management and derivatives. Most recently, he was in charge of risk management strategy and execution for Goldman Sachs’ Merchant Banking Division.

OCC has hired David Ye as Chief Risk Officer and a member of OCC’s Management Committee. With over 20 years of leadership experience in financial and operational risk management, including executive positions at State Street Global Markets and Nomura Holding Americas, Ye will be responsible for implementing OCC’s risk management strategy.

The American Financial Exchange (AFX), an electronic exchange for direct lending and borrowing for American banks and financial institutions, has announced that Barbara G. Novick, co-founder of BlackRock and current Senior Advisor to the firm, will serve as an independent director on AFX’s Board of Directors. 

CrossTower has hired a 25-year exchange industry veteran, Bryan Christian, as Global Head of Exchange. Christian is responsible for managing CrossTower’s US and global exchanges, product expansion, and growth of the company’s transaction business. He previously served as Head of Institutional Services for ETF market maker Old Mission and Head of Sales at Cboe Global Markets.

Stewart Russell has joined YieldX as CIO, and David Andonian has been added to the YieldX Board of Directors. Russel joins from Barings where he was Managing Director, Head of Institutional Solutions and Head of Multi-Asset Portfolios. Andonian currently serves as Managing Partner and Founder of the early-stage venture capital firm, Dace Ventures, based in Lexington, MA.

Antonio Manuel Abad has joined Sterling Trading Tech as the OMS & Infrastructure Product Manager. His experience includes work at a variety of firms including Lime Brokerage, Engineers Gate, and Arxis Capital Group.

LiquidityBook has hired Sayant Chatterjee as Chief Operating Officer. In his role, he will drive strategic alignment across all departments and help execute plans for expansion, with a primary focus on enhancing LiquidityBook’s sell-side products and services. He will be based in the firm’s New York office. Chatterjee joins LiquidityBook from JonesTrading, where he served as Chief Information Officer for over seven years.

David Craig, former CEO of Refinitiv, has resurfaced as co-chairman of a new market-led Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), which will support business in assessing emerging nature-related risks and opportunities. Craig quit Refinitiv late last month after nine and a half years at the helm of the global financial data business following its takeover by the London Stock Exchange.
