ON THE MOVE: BNY Hires Tenengauzer Head of Markets

BNY Mellon has landed Daniel Tenengauzer Head of Markets Strategy & Insights and leader of its Aerial View market commentary platform. According to sources, in his new role Tenengauzer will lead strategy efforts for BNY Mellon Markets, providing clients with original insights into the world's asset and currency flows. He will also act as a media spokesperson for BNY Mellon on global macroeconomic and geopolitical issues, succeeding current strategy chief, Simon Derrick, who shall retire from the firm at the end of October. Tenegauzer has more than 20 years of cross-asset experience on both the buy and sell sides and joined from Tse Capital Management, a New York-based hedge fund. Previously, he covered FX and fixed income sales and trading at Goldman Sachs, Lehman Brothers and Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He will be based in New York.

Mark Gorton is stepping down from the helm of Tower Research Capital, the high-frequency trading giant he founded two decades ago, according to media reports. Technology head Albert An, 44, is replacing him as chief executive officer, and Gorton will be chairman, the two said in an interview. Tower is one of the oldest firms that use computers to buy and sell securities at speeds faster than the blink of an eye.
Red Bank, NJ-based Global Liquidity Partners has hired Kate McAllister as a Sales and Client Relationship specialist. Most recently, McAllister was a Director at Virtu/ITG. She began her career at Merrill Lynch followed by 5 years at Citibank. Also, the firm onboarded Matthew Fiedler as senior technical lead. Fiedler has more than 30 years experience in technology and nearly 20 years in the financial services / trading industry. Most recently he worked as a VP in software engineering at JP Morgan with previous experience at Caherciveen Partners, LLC.
London-based R.J. O’Brien Limited (RJO Limited) appointed Simon Prangnell to head the firm’s new affiliate R.J. O’Brien France S.A.S. Prangnell, most recently served since 2015 as Managing Partner, Coex Partners Limited, an independent agency broker acquired in 2017 by TP ICAP. He opened the Paris branch of Coex, with oversight of the sales, compliance and operational risk functions and the growth of the team. From 2011 to 2014, Prangnell was Managing Director, Head of Continental Europe and the Middle East for Newedge. Prangnell began his career as a floor trader on the London International Financial Futures Exchange (Liffe). From 1992 to 1996 he was Co-head Financial Futures and Options for HSBC James Capel in London, running the fixed income listed execution desk and the Asian equity derivatives team.
Also just joining R.J. O’Brien France this month as an institutional broker and Senior Vice President is Martin Marchant, who has worked closely with Prangnell since 2002. Jérôme Jourquin joined the affiliate in March as Senior Vice President and its first institutional broker. Marchant has been a broker for most of his career, beginning in equities and later in futures and options since 1994. Jourquin has more than two decades of experience in agricultural commodities brokerage, most recently as Head of the Commodity & Clearing Desk for GFI Securities Limited.
MarketAxess elected Richard Prager to the Board of Directors. Prager is a former Senior Managing Director of BlackRock and served on the firm’s Global Executive Committee. In that role, he led the firm’s global trading, liquidity and securities lending teams and played a leadership role in managing BlackRock’s global investment platform for both active portfolios and the iShares ETF business. He retired from BlackRock on July 1, 2019. Before joining BlackRock in 2009, Prager worked for Bank of America in several senior management roles, including Global Head of Rates, Currencies and Commodities.
BestXStats hired Michael Fryer as Senior Vice President, Head of Client Services. He will specialize in best execution and regulatory Analysis and the buy-side/sell-side trading experience. Fryer, a veteran with over 25 years of capital markets experience, came from IHS Markit.
BNP Paribas landed Scott Sinawi as head of Corporate Sales North America. In this newly created role, Sinawi will coordinate across Global Markets business lines as well as Global Banking to ensure a holistic client experience. Previously, he worked at RBC for 10 years and most recently as head of its risk solutions group in the US. Prior to RBC, he held similar roles at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. Sinawi will report locally to John Gallo Head of Sales, Global Markets Americas.
WisdomTree, an exchange traded fund sponsor, named Alexis Marinof as its new Executive Vice President and Head of WisdomTree Europe, and to WisdomTree’s Executive Committee. Marinof brings over 20 years of experience in the asset management industry to the role. He joined WisdomTree in July 2017 as Head of European Distribution and most recently served as Chief Operating Officer, Europe, helping to guide the company through the acquisition of ETF Securities in 2018. Prior to this, he was EMEA Head of SPDR ETFs and Managing Director at State Street Global Advisors in London.
The Trade reported that portfolio manager Shane Padden is understood to be leaving Deutsche Bank’s asset management business DWS. Padden spent one year at the German bank, having previously held stints at $453bn Schroder Investment Management from 2017 to 2018, and at US-based Dimensional Fund Advisors from 2010 to 2017, according to his LinkedIn page.
Coleman Research, a global provider of primary research, appointed Isaak Karaev to the newly created role of Executive Chairman. In this new role for Coleman, Karaev will develop corporate strategy and oversee all aspects of the firm’s technology operations. Most recently, Karaev founded and successfully exited InfoNgen, one of the first AI search engines for the financial services community. Karaev was also the founder, Chairman and CEO of Multex, one of the first digital networks to aggregate and distribute financial research documents for investment professionals and individual investors, and provide dedicated enterprise solutions for the largest brokers, money managers and financial vendors.
New York Private Bank & Trust and its operating bank, Emigrant, reported that Maria Vullo, who served until February as Superintendent of the New York State Department of Financial Services, has been elected as a member of the Board of Directors of Emigrant and NYPB&T. Vullo has more than thirty years of experience in banking law, regulation and compliance, spanning the private, public and nonprofit sectors.
