StockCross Financial Services announced the Trading for the Cure charity event held today will benefit Associates for Breast and Prostate Cancer Studies, a fundraising arm of the John Wayne Cancer Institute. The firm hopes to raise a significant amount this year and to hopefully partner with other firms in the future.
A portion of StockCross’s trading profits made during the one-day event are donated to charity each year. The late Gerry Mastrianni, who was himself a cancer survivor, founded Trading for a Cure, which originally raised money for the Florida Hospital Foundation.
Nicholas DeMaria, managing director of equities trading at StockCross, said the firm decided it would continue to raise money for cancer-related treatment and research centers, but from now on would choose a different charity each year.
Gloria Gebbia, whom DeMaria described as the matriarch of StockCross, is president of this year’s charity, which generally goes by the name ABCs. At an ABCs Mothers Day Luncheon on Wednesday, representatives from StockCross will present a check to Ms. Gebbia and E! News host Giuliani Rancic, herself a survivor of breast cancer.
So far, Trading for a Cure has raised more than half a million dollars for charity, and DeMaria said he would like to team up with other trading firms to raise even more money in the future.
“We are encouraging other broker dealers to contact us if they care to get involved in future fundraising events,” DeMaria said.
