Piers Murray has joined BNY Mellon as chief operating officer of the Markets business. His new role starts on June 15, 2016. Murray will be based in New York and report to Michelle Neal, president of BNY Mellon Markets.
Murray will succeed Regina Meredith-Carpeni. According to a BNY Mellon press statement, she is noted for her a distinguished and impactful career spanned nearly four decades at BNY Mellon in numerous leadership roles, including as one of the founders of Womens Initiatives Network (WIN) where she is currently co-chair.
Piers joins the BNY Mellon team with a successful track record in global markets products and solutions, said Neal. BNY Mellon Markets continues to be a significant growth segment for the bank, particularly as our clients look to navigate the changing regulatory and market landscape. Piers will be instrumental in helping to industrialize our platform and strengthen our core business. We are excited to have him join our team.
Murray is a financial industry veteran. He was recently global co-head of Listed Derivatives & Markets Clearing at Deutsche Bank. Prior to this, he was global head of OTC Derivatives Clearing & Derivatives Prime Brokerage at the bank. From 1986 to 2012 he held a variety of roles at JPMorgan Chase in credit portfolio, credit risk management and OTC interest rate clearing. From 1988 to 1999 he worked in the banks FX options business in London, Singapore and New York.
Murray holds a BA from Yale University and an MBA from New York University.
