When order management systems first started cropping up in the 1990s their main goal was connecting buy-side firms to their brokers electronically. Paperless trading and reducing manual errors sounds like a pretty basic concept. It was the start of something big. Once those first automated connections in were in place, there were suddenly a lot more possibilities of new tools and functions that could make the process easier, better, more seamless. Flash forward about 25 years and the new features and tools keep coming.
