ON THE MOVE: BNP Paribas Names José Placido and Jean-Yves Fillion; HSBC Promotes Vis Nayar

José Placido

BNP Paribas has appointed José Placido as CEO of BNP Paribas USA and Jean-Yves Fillion to the position of Vice-Chairman of the BNP Paribas USA Board of Directors. Placido will oversee all US-business activities. He retains his role as CEO of CIB Americas. Fillion will serve as executive sponsor to many of the bank’s most strategic US clients and will also continue to represent the BNP Paribas Group with external stakeholders. In addition, Marianne Thiery was appointed to the roles of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for BNP Paribas USA and CIB Americas. She succeeds Emmanuelle Bury, who has been appointed BNP Paribas UK Country Head. Thiery will report to José and to Stephanie Maarek, Head of Compliance for the Group. 

Vis Nayar

Vis Nayar has been appointed Global CIO, Equities at HSBC. Nayar is an experienced CIO with a strong track record of over 25 years working in the financial services industry across multiple geographies. His experience includes research and portfolio management roles in equities, fixed income, structured products and impact/ESG investment. Nayar has been with HSBC for over 16 years, previously as European and UK CIO.

Michael Stone

Wedbush Securities has expanded into FX Prime Brokerage services directed by industry veteran, Michael Stone as Senior Vice President. The firm will begin this offering in May 2023. FX will be part of the newly named Fixed Income, Currencies, Commodities, and Securities Finance (FICCS) Division of Wedbush Securities, led by EVP Bob Fitzsimmons. Prior to joining Wedbush, Stone spent the past three decades in FX Prime Brokerage, as part of the team at ABN AMRO Bank, one of the first entrants in the FX Prime Brokerage space; and at Prudential Bache to create a similar offering. James Peckham, Ray Cera, and Stephen Lamb, all previously at Jefferies, join Stone in building out the business unit at Wedbush. 

Samuel A. Ramirez & Co, one of the oldest and largest Hispanic-owned investment banks in the United States, has hired Jason Valdez and Bryan Cameron as Managing Directors in the firm’s Institutional Equity Group. Valdez has 27 years of equity trading experience, with a particular focus on program trading. Prior to joining Ramirez & Co., he was the Global Head of Equity Trading for Penserra Securities, where he was a founding member and partner for nearly 15 years. Cameron’s trading career spans 20 years, including most recently serving as BlackRock’s Head of Americas Platform Strategy for Equity Trading. 

WealthKernel, a provider of digital investment infrastructure, has appointed Brian Schwieger as its new Chair of the Board. He was previously the Global Head of Equities and ETF trading at the London Stock Exchange (LSE), bringing decades of capital markets experience. Prior to the LSE, Schwieger was the Managing Director and the Head of Electronic Trading at BoA Merrill Lynch.

Ralston Roberts has been named Head of Global Markets at Velocity Clearing. In his role, Roberts will oversee the firm’s trading business and global expansion strategy. Roberts has an extensive track record leading a cross-section of financial and technology businesses. He was previously the Global CEO of Instinet, where he was responsible for the firm’s global trading, venues, and software business. Before joining Instinet, Roberts was co-head of EMEA Execution Services at Goldman Sachs.

The Mather Group, a wealth management firm with 15 offices across the country, has hired Stuart Evans as Chief Compliance Officer (CCO). Evans brings nearly 30 years of industry experience in compliance, operations, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as the credential of being an Investment Advisor Certified Compliance Professional. Most recently, he was CCO for Cerity Partners.
