Mihan Named Global Head of Equity Trading at UBS

Valar Mihan is now the top trading dog at UBS.

Mihan was promoted to global head of equity trading and joined its equity management committee, according to a memo obtained by Traders Magazine. Mike Stewart, UBS’s global head of equities, sent the memo internally at the end of April.

Mihan replaces Ryan Primmer who, according to the memo, approached the bank several months ago to discuss pursuing a different career path. Primmer, formerly the bank’s global head of equity trading, departed in April to concentrate on developing new opportunities, the memo said.

Mihan and Primmer worked together at UBS; he served under Primmer during the last year

Mihan reports now to Stewart.

From February 1995 to 2011, Mihan held a series of senior roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, including head of Americas derivatives trading, chief operating officer of global equity derivatives, head of CEMEA cash and derivatives trading and various other leadership positions across US and European trading and risk.

Mihan also has served as a director of The Options Clearing Corporation from May 2010 to June 2012 and as a director of The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
