Morgan Stanley is on the hunt for a desk strategist.
According to a posting on Peopleclick, a website operated by human resources management firm Peoplefluent, the bulge shop is looking to hire a trading and market structure expert for its electronic trading group.
A desk strategist at Morgan Stanley is expected to become expert in alternative trading systems, such as dark pools and order placement models. He is also charged with keeping on top of trading trends and the performance of Morgan Stanley’s trading engine.
In addition, a desk strategist must coordinate its work with the research of Morgan Stanley’s “core strategists.” Any research produced by the desk strategist should be short-term in nature, but still help to shape the work of the core strategists, according to the post.
The two strategy groups work together to refine Morgan Stanley’s trading engine, with a particular emphasis on such elements as transaction cost analysis and intraday volume and volatility data.
Desk strategists are trading and market structure experts, according to the post, who must understand changes in trading behavior that arise from changes in market structure. They also act as execution consultants to Morgan Stanley “clients”—both inside and outside of the firm.
