Wall Street is going to meet Pennsylvania Avenue as the Security Traders Association of America prepares to convene this week in the nation’s capital.
The STA plans to hold its 83rd Annual Market Structure Conference titled Game Changers & Culture Creators at the JW Marriot Hotel in Washington DC from September 14th through the 16th.
This year the STA is partnering with Markets Media Group, publishers of Traders Magazine, to exclusively publish the official STA conference magazine. The magazine, chock full of insightful Markets Media analysis and contributed content, will be released on September 14th at the conference to attendees and then will be distributed nationwide and in Canada. The three-day conference will feature a veritable Whos Who of the leading equity market professionals – traders, investors, vendors and government officials – providing attendees with up to date information on all things market structure. The keynote address will be provided by Mary Jo White, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. So far, approximately 625 trading professionals are scheduled to attend, spanning over 200 firms. On Wednesday, September 14 the conference will hold a fireside chat moderated by Bank of America Merrill Lynchs Jon Werts and feature Stacey Cunningham, NYSE Group and Tom Wittman, Nasdaqon how the nation’s two largest exchanges are responding to the regulatory and legislative issues facing exchanges in today’s highly competitive and global markets. Capital formation, operational soundness and their response to recommendations by the SEC’s Equity Market Structure Advisory Committee, “EMSAC” will be covered also. Immediately following, the four subcommittee chairs of EMSAC, Invescos Kevin Cronin, Convergexs Eric Noll, Finras Rick Ketchum and Thomson Reuters Manisha Kimmel will discuss the recommendations made by their committees. Access fee pilot, Regulation NMS Plan governance, limit up/limit down will be some of the topics discussed. Thursdays docket of events includes speakers Congressman Randy Hultgren (R-IL) U.S. House of Representatives Congressman Randy Hultgren, who kicks of the day making remarks. Then a panel session follows that will discuss the catalysts which continue to influence the transformation of execution for market makers, buy- and sell-side firms. Big data, ETFs, quantitative hedge funds and the new generation of market makers will be included as well as why there is a need for humans and technology to co-exist. Later in the day, a fireside chat will be held to discuss the relationship between market-makers & exchanges featuring Doug Cifu, Virtu Financial & Chris Concannon, Bats Global Markets. Then a regulatory panel featuring a bevy of sell side executives will discuss how the brokers pan to navigate new rules, pilots and upcoming mandates from the regulators.
