Former buyside trader Geffrey Gioia was hired as an institutional equity research sales trader and managing director at Northcoast Research. Gioia, a 22 year veteran, was formerly an equity research sales trader at Longbow Research for two and a half years. Prior to that, he was a managing director and equity research sales trader at FTN Equity Capital Markets / Midwest Research for just over 14 years. He started his career in 1993 as a buyside trader at National City Bank trading for the firm’s Armada funds.

Block trading house JonesTrading brought on a pair of executives to broaden its business. First, the firm hired sales trader Jeff LeVeen as a managing director in its Morristown, N.J. office. LeVeen, a 17 year veteran, was a managing director and institutional sales trader at KCG Holdings and its predecessor, Knight Capital Group. He started his career at Smith Barney/Citibank in June 1997.
The firm also named David Lutz to lead its push into the exchange traded funds business. Lutz, a 22 year pro, comes from Stifel Nicolaus, where he built that firm’s ETF business during his seven year tenure. Earlier, he was a managing director and sales trader, focusing on block trading at Wells Fargo/Wachovia Securities. He started his career at Alex, Brown and Sons.
Deutsche Bank hired two senior execs to help bolster its technology and operations team. The firm brought on Richard Shannon as Americas chief information officer and co-head of group technology & operations (GTO) Americas and Scott Marcar as head of IT infrastructure.
Shannon, who will join in October as Americas CIO, is charged with supporting the firm’s compliance and regulatory technology initiatives. He will also hold the role of co-head of GTO Americas along with Scott Simon, who is currently regional head of GTO Americas. He joined after spending 20 years with Goldman Sachs, where he most recently held the position of global head of web platforms technology. He will be based in New York.
Marcar will also join in October as head of information technology infrastructure and be responsible for designing, operating and modernizing the firm’s infrastructure and enhancing its security, stability and cost efficiency. He comes to the German bank after seven years with Royal Bank of Scotland, where he most recently held the position of chief information officer, corporate and institutional banking. He previously held senior technology positions at JPMorgan Chase. Marcar will be based in London.
Both Shannon and Marcar will report to Kim Hammonds, Global CIO and Global Co-Head of GTO.
The firm also hired Michael Grimaldi as chief investment officer of corporate banking & securities and global transaction banking business divisions. He will start in September.
