For the team at T. Rowe Price, making the decision to host Baltimore Rides FAR, a satellite ride for Rides FAR (For Autism Research), at their Owings Mills, MD, campus last year was a no-brainer. The investment firm makes it a point to give back to its local community and hosting the 2021 event empowered them to go the extra mile, bringing awareness to autism spectrum disorder and the life-changing scientific research enabled by the Autism Science Foundation (ASF).
The inaugural Baltimore-area ride proved very successful in activating the team at T. Rowe Price. Coming together in the picturesque fall weather for a bike ride on their home turf showed the team how pivotal the power of teamwork and passion is when advocating for a great cause.
For Vice President and Head of Global Trading at T. Rowe Price and Rides FAR Board Member Marc Wyatt, the cause hits close to home. Through his involvement with the autism community in Baltimore, Marc witnessed the various institutions supporting families impacted by autism. As his family benefitted from these amazing organizations, Marc was determined to pay it forward. When he became aware of Wall Street Rides FAR, an event combining his career with a cause he had been passionate about for so many years, he took the opportunity to become fully involved.
“Marc is very passionate about this event [and] autism awareness, and his passion is contagious. He was able to rally a small and mighty team the first time out…and we learned right away that there is strength in both numbers and passion,” said Jonet Johnson, AVP and associate engagement manager for the firm.
Looking forward to the 2022 Baltimore Rides FAR event, the team at T. Rowe Price is excited for the opportunity to further establish the ride and grow their participation. Increased support has enabled the team to refine their route, allowing participants to bike as little or as much as they like, appealing to both avid cyclists and families.
For T. Rowe Price, however, their support for autism doesn’t stop at Rides FAR.
“There is a passionate group within T. Rowe Price that has created a neurodiversity team working group to try and see if we can create opportunities for those on the spectrum because they bring to the table some unique capabilities,” said Wyatt.
Getting the greater Baltimore population involved is important for T. Rowe Price as well. A number of autism research organizations are pillars in the community and hosting the Baltimore Rides FAR event shines a spotlight on the individuals who have made an impact on the lives of those with autism. The event serves as a unique and fun opportunity to bring together various members of the Baltimore community who share a common goal.
