Anisha Dhanani, Executive Director, Interest Rate and Derivative Sales, Mizuho Americas won Rising Star at Markets Media Group’s 2022 Women in Finance (U.S.) Awards.
What was your reaction to winning the award?
Shocked, humbled & honored to be chosen amongst such amazing women.
What have been the main drivers of your success?
I try to stay true to myself and always remember to be respectful and empathetic to others. I value teamwork – and believe that success is best enjoyed when we help and lift one another. I strive to help and educate others, regardless of department or title, and instill a culture of taking care of one another. I also try to help my clients, even if it’s in an area that is outside of my role, and go above and beyond what is required within my role as a salesperson. I wouldn’t have been successful without my trusted colleagues and wonderful clients’ support.
What keeps you motivated?
I have two young daughters. I want to be a good role model for them, and for them to know that women can be successful even in traditionally male-dominated industries. I want them to not be afraid to pursue any job they want to do, and that success can be achieved if they work hard for it.
Who have been the main influences in your career?
My mother. She was a stay-at-home mom who was instrumental in helping me develop strong morals, and instilled a drive in me to be meticulous in my (school)work. That mentality definitely has stuck.
What subjects interested you the most during your college days?
Anything to do with economics, finance and numbers, but also art, which I find relaxing.
What do you like least about the world of finance?
It can be brutal. The fast pace, high stakes, and tremendous pressure can result in short tempers in some. It is challenging to remain level-headed, focused, and patient at times.
What’s your favorite aspect of working in Interest Rates and Derivative Sales?
I’ve developed a lot of great relationships both internally and externally – not just on a professional level but also on a personal level. I’ve gravitated towards people who share my values of teamwork and helping one another.
