There are things afoot at broker-dealer BTIG who has made multiple hires over the last month. First, the firm hired senior traders Seth Bernstein and John Toland in its Fixed Income Credit Unit as Managing Directors. Both sales and trading credit specialists will be based out of the firm’s New York office, and report into Darren Haines, Managing Director and Co-Head of Fixed Income Credit, at BTIG.
Bernstein will be focused on building out the firm’s trading capabilities across all credit products, while Toland will be tasked with expanding credit sales across high-yield bonds and leveraged loans. Bernstein has held several senior credit trading roles throughout his career. Prior to BTIG, he was a Senior Vice President within Fixed Income Credit at HSBC. Previously, he was a Managing Director within High-Yield Credit at Stern Agee. Earlier in his career, he held similar roles at RBS and Morgan Stanley.
Toland has thirty years of credit sales trading experience, where he has primarily focused on high-yield, bonds and leveraged loans. Prior to BTIG, he was a Managing Director within Leveraged Finance Distribution at several firms including Mizuho, Nomura, RBS, Bank of America and UBS.
Also at the firm, Michael Vranich, a REIT specialist, joined the Institutional Equities team as a Managing Director. Vranich will be based in the firm’s Dallas office and report to Richard J. Blank, Jr., Managing Director and Head of Global Equities, at BTIG. He has nearly 20 years of REIT trading experience. Prior to BTIG, he managed the Real Estate Trading team at Green Street Advisors for eight years. Earlier in his career, he was a Managing Director at Bear Stearns and ISI Group in New York, where he focused on the real estate sector.
Lastly, Adam Brown, CFA, Michael Glick and Chris Kirby have joined the firm to expand its global credit platform. All three will be based out of BTIG’s New York office and have been tapped to enhance sales coverage, sourcing and strategy for credit clients.
Brown joins the firm as a Managing Director, where he will focus on high-yield, distressed-debt, bonds and reorg. equities. Prior to BTIG, he spent eight years in a similar role at Seaport Global Securities. Previously, he was the Head of Investor Relations and Marketing at Bell Capital.
Glick onboards as a Managing Director, where he will focus on credit sales across various investment instruments. Prior to BTIG, he held a similar high-yield sales role at GMP as a Director. Previously, he spent several years in high-yield sales with positions at Seaport Global Securities, Knight, Nomura and Deutsche Bank.
Kirby landed as a Managing Director as well, where he will specialize in curating credit strategy and commentary for the sales and trading team. Prior, he was a Senior Vice President within Credit Research at HSBC. Previously, Kirby was a Director on the Credit Research team at RBS Securities.

EDHEC-Risk Institute landed three new members for its international advisory board: Noël Amenc, CEO, Scientific Beta, part of SGX group ; Kevin Bong, Director of Economics and Investment Strategy, GIC Private Limited and Albert de Wet, Senior Portfolio Manager, FirstRand Group Treasury.
The role of the international advisory board is to validate the relevance and goals of the research programme proposals presented by the institute’s management and to evaluate research outcomes with respect to their potential impact on industry practices.
Incapital hired Jeffrey Stanley as its new Senior Vice President, Head of Fixed Income Strategy & Analytics. Stanley will be based in Boca Raton, working at the intersection of Incapital’s technology, trading and sales teams. He joins Incapital from D.A. Davidson, where for eight years, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer responsible for overseeing the firm’s operations within the fixed income capital markets team. Prior to D.A. Davidson, Stanley worked as a strategist for Sterne Agee. He reports to Co-Heads of Fixed Income George Holstead and Laura Elliott, as well as to Chief Operations Officer Stephen Giles.
Henry Schwartz started a new position as Senior Director, Head of Product Intelligence, Information Solutions Group at Cboe Global Markets.
Christopher Hurley was promoted to Senior Vice President, Director of Institutional Sales at Capital Institutional Services, Inc. (CAPIS).
Darren Dempsey has onboarded with BNY Mellon’s FX spot team as Senior Principal Trader. He will be responsible for trading G10 spot across the EMEA region. Dempsey comes to BNY Mellon from Stone Milliner Asset Management where he was a trader on the fund’s multi-asset principal execution desk. Prior to his time on the buy-side, he held principal trader roles across spot and forwards in both G10 and EM at Nomura, Barclays and Lehman Brothers. Dempsey jointly reports into Dan Madeira, Head of Spot and eTrading EMEA, and Jeff Leal, Global Head of Spot and FX Electronic Markets.
