While April showers are kind to flowers, they were not so kind to U.S. equity trading volumes, which fell in the month of April.
According to Tabb’s Equities LiquidityMatrix, April month-over-month industry exchange volume decreased 4 percent to 6.4 billion shares from 6.7 billion in March.
In contrast, Tabb reported ATS/SDP volume increased by 1% month over month, which accounted for 33 percent of total off-exchange (TRF) volume in April 2015.
During the same period, off-exchange (TRF) volume increased to 36.2 percent from 35.5%.

In commenting on the monthly report, Tabb analysts Valerie Bogard, noted the monthly VIX average close decreased to 13.5 from 14.8.
“April 2015 had the lowest VIX average close and highest off-exchange percentage since November 2014, Bogard said.
