Baird, an employee-owned, international wealth management, asset management, investment banking/capital markets and private equity firm, landed Ted Mortonson as Managing Director and Technology Desk Sector Strategist. Mortonson will serve as an extension of Baird’s technology research platform to further enhance the firm’s connectivity with clients across equity sales and trading. He comes with over 30 years of technology sector experience in senior sales and management roles at a number of top sell-side firms. He most recently served as Managing Director of the Technology Sales Group at Raymond James, and before that held senior positions including Partner at Pacific Crest Securities and Senior Managing Director at the Royal Bank of Canada, where he managed RBC’s global sales platform.

Effective July 1, Heike Eckert will be appointed as full member of the Executive Board of Deutsche Börse AG and will be responsible for the newly formed Executive Board division Human Resources and Compliance. In this context, she will also succeed Hauke Stars as Director of Labour Relations. Heike Eckert is currently a member of the Executive Board and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Eurex Clearing AG. Heike Eckert has previously held different management positions at Deutsche Börse Group, where she has been working in Germany and abroad since 1995. Stars will leave Deutsche Börse AG at her own request by the end of June 2020 before her current contract expires.
BTON Financial makes two senior hires on the back of strong appetite for its outsourced dealing desk. The firm landed Emmett Cawley as Head of Data Science and Algos and Justin Hudson as Head of Sales. Cawley, a former quant trader and CERN physicist, has more than 15 years experience in data focused trading and quant strategies. Previously, he held senior quantitative trading tenures at Nomura, Millenium, Credit Suisse and UBS. As Head of Data Science and Algos. Hudson onboards from the London Stock Exchange, where he spent nearly a decade in senior technology sales roles.
Singapore Exchange has grabbed Ng Yao Loong as Deputy Chief Financial Officer, effective April 1. Ng will succeed Chng Lay Chew as CFO from 1 October 2020 onwards, upon Chng’s retirement. Ng was previously with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) where he spent more than seven years in senior positions including Assistant Managing Director of the Development and International Group as well as Executive Director of the Markets Policy and Infrastructure Department and Financial Markets Strategy Department. Prior to MAS, Ng was an investment banker with Morgan Stanley in Singapore and Citigroup in Hong Kong and London. Chng will retire from SGX on 30 September 2020 after serving the company for close to nine years. He joined SGX in December 2011, bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in accounting and financial management, including leadership positions in leading local and international banks.
FMS Financial Management Services landed Gary Bickmore as the new Vice President of Strategic Alliances. In his new role, Bickmore will oversee FMS’s non-organic growth strategies, and the SAS business relationships as well as third-party strategic alliances. Bickmore joined FMS in 2018, after serving in various executive roles in both wholesale and retail industries. In his role as a Key Account Executive for the West Coast and Canada, Bickmore quickly showed his value to FMS’ strategic initiatives across both markets. He will report directly to FMS President and CEO, Robert Graybill.
Ed Clark was named President of Securities Training Corporation (STC), a leader in securities training. In addition to managing the growth of STC, he will be overseeing expansion into further areas of financial services. Most recently, Clark was responsible for several businesses at Kaplan Professional and the Graham Holdings’ family of companies.
R3, the enterprise blockchain software firm, has appointed former IBM and Amazon Web Services executive, Dorothy Copeland, as Global Head of Partner Ecosystem & Alliances. Copeland joined R3 following a tenure at IBM where she was responsible for ecosystem partner sales, programs, and business development. Prior to her role at IBM, she held senior positions at Amazon Web Services (AWS) where she built the company’s global ecosystem programs from the ground-up.
The Council of Institutional Investors elected a new board for 2020-2021. For the third year in a row, CII members elected Ash Williams, executive director and CIO, State Board of Administration of Florida, as board chair. In keeping with CII’s bylaws, Williams was elected chair by CII’s public pension fund members.
CII members elected three new directors and re-elected 12 directors. The three new board members are: Louis Malizia, assistant director of capital strategies for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters; Carolina de Onis, general counsel for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas; and Mitch Vogel, trustee of the Illinois State Universities Retirement System.
