Equity market and industry veteran Brian Fagen has been named Head of Execution Services at BNP Paribas CIB. Fagen was part of the deal last July where BNP acquired the Global Execution and Prime Finance businesses from Deutsche Bank. The deal closed and went effective last December. Fagen spent the last nine years as a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank and before that worked at Barclays Capital, Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley for 18 years. He currently sits on the boards of BIDS Trading and Cboe Global Markets after it purchased Direct Edge. Fagen and the BNP CIB will be profiled in an upcoming Traders Magazine article.

Kapil Rathi has been named Chief Executive Officer of CrossTower, a fintech firm whose mission is to mainstream digital asset trading and investing for individual and institutional customers and recently opened its Crosstower Exchange multi-asset trading platform. Rathi was a Co-Founder of the firm. A veteran of the fintech space for 25 years, he has worked previously at CBoe Global Markets as Head of Equity Options and before that was part of BATS where he was Senior Vice President Options Business Strategy. Before that he worked at International Stock Exchange before it was acquired by Nasdaq as head of Product Management for 10 years and at the New York Stock Exchange.
Tourmaline Partners hired three senior professionals; Alex Goodman and Matt Sindell have joined as Managing Directors, while Darren Mazzuca has joined as Director of Operations. All are based in Stamford, CT.
Goodman joined with more than two decades of trading experience across the buy and sell sides and multiple asset classes, most recently as Managing Director at Macquarie Capital, where he headed U.S. cash trading. He previously served as Global Head of Equity Trading, ECM and Relationship Management at Hutchin Hill Capital, and before that was Head of Long/Short Equity Trading at Davidson Kempner. Goodman has also held senior positions at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Citigroup, George Weiss Associates and Millennium Partners.
Sindell comes to Tourmaline with over 25 years of trading experience across the buy and sell sides. Most recently, he spent 13 years at Susquehanna International Group, putting his hybrid trading capabilities to work as a senior member of the equity and equity derivatives sales teams. Sindell earlier held positions at Cathay Financial and Ladenburg Thalmann.
Mazzuca has spent the past eight years as Vice President – Global Operations Manager at Gabelli Asset Management. In this role, he served as the point person for the firm’s Merger Arbitrage and SICAV-UCITS funds, managed the daily trade break process and worked with the IT team on numerous projects to increase overall efficiency and productivity. He previously spent more than a decade at BlackRock, rising to the role of Vice President – Portfolio Analytics, Client Services.
Mizuho Americas hired Dan Dolev as Managing Director and senior equity research analyst covering Financial Technology. Dolev joins Mizuho from Macquarie, where he served as senior analyst, equity research, covering payments and business services. Prior to that, he was a senior analyst at Nomura Instinet covering payments and business services and Jefferies, covering US business services. CLS named Thomas Barkhuff as its new Chief Information Officer. He will oversee CLS’s technology and information security strategy and operations. Barkuff comes from IT and business consulting services firm CGI, where he was Chief Technology Officer of the Finance and Insurance Group. He has held two Chief Information Officer roles at TD Bank Group, including Chief Information Officer for the US bank. Previously he was a Senior Technology Executive for Bank of America. He will report to Chief Executive Officer Marc Bayle de Jessé and serve as a member of the Executive Management Committee.
SimCorp announced its entry into the South African market, with new Managing Director, Brian Anderson. With a substantial background in the investment management market spanning over 30 years, he was previously Managing Director at FIS in Africa, and held several senior positions held at SunGard, Brian Anderson.
The board of SIX elected André Helfenstein to the Board of Directors. Helfenstein therefore became the representative of Credit Suisse with immediate effect, replacing Thomas Gottstein who stepped down as a member of the Board of Directors of SIX as of yesterday. He is CEO of Credit Suisse (Switzerland) Ltd. and a member of the Executive Board of Credit Suisse Group AG. Before joining Credit Suisse he spent more than ten years with Boston Consulting Group, most recently as a Partner and Managing Director. André Helfenstein is also a member of the Boards of Directors of Neue Aargauer Bank and Venture Incubator AG.
