The Security Traders Association of Chicago (STAC), a membership organization for individual professionals in the securities industry in Chicago and an affiliate of The Security Traders Association (STA), will host its 10th Anniversary STAC Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse.
The marquee fundraising event will feature an evening of high stakes poker action, Vegas-style casino games and amazing food and hospitality with all net proceeds going to support the STAC Fund’s mission of philanthropy and education.
This year STAC has partnered with Poker Power, an organization that teaches women+ how to play Texas Hold ‘Em to compete and succeed in business, finance, and life in a fun, supportive, and safe-to-fail environment.
Poker Power is offering all tournament attendees a complimentary 45-minute crash course on how to play poker from 5:15 – 6:00 pm before the tournament kicks off at 6:15 pm. Poker players from novices to experts can attend the session to learn valuable skills that can help flip the odds in their favor at the poker table or in the boardroom.
“The STAC Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament has grown tremendously over the past decade to become our marquee fundraising event thanks to our generous sponsors and members. We’ve been able to increase our philanthropic efforts tenfold in that time to support Chicagoland students that want to better themselves in their next educational endeavor,” said James Bohrer, STAC Board of Directors Member and Director of Business Development at Abacus Group.
“Chicago and the securities industry have done so much for STAC members and their families, and this event is a great way for us to give back while enjoying a wonderful evening with friends and colleagues. We are thrilled to partner with Poker Power this year, a like-minded Chicago-based organization that uses poker to teach business lessons like risk assessment, discipline and decision making. This is a great opportunity for novice players to get a crash course in poker and use that to challenge our seasoned players at the tables,” he said.
Event proceeds will support the STAC Fund, a 501c3 organization founded by STAC in 1991 to provide scholarships to deserving students and give back to charitable and educational institutions.
The STAC Fund has made approximately $500,000 in charitable donations and scholarship awards over the past ten years due to the generosity of STAC members, sponsors and friends attending STAC events such as the STAC Texas Hold’ Em Tournament.
Doors to the STAC Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament will open at 5:00 PM before cards fly at 6:15 PM. Player and spectator registration is open and all attendees will enjoy a full Gibsons dinner, open bar, raffles and networking with the STAC community.
Sponsorship opportunities are still available for organizations to support the event and the STAC Fund.
